Beneath the glass roof of the former casino next to the village church, a submerged world opens up underground – Zermatlantis. The researchers at this fictional excavation site are just sitting down to lunch. Unobstructed, you enter the rooms of old Zermatt. You experience how the people of this poor farming village try, with God’s help, to tame the forces of nature, how mountaineers conquer their own cosmos, and how the fall of four climbers during the first ascent of the Matterhorn will change life in Zermatt forever. You experience the Zermatt-Matterhorn myth through the most modern forms of museum staging. The museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions and has established itself as a venue for cultural performances.
