Chauderon-Schlucht

Gorge

About this place

Just a short walk from Montreux station, the « Gorges du Chauderon » begins. By now, the town is forgotten: wrapped in the scent of wild garlic, along the bubbling and gurgling « Baye de Montreux », you follow the river on changing banks. The gorge, first deeply cut and at times reminiscent of a rainforest, gradually widens up to Les Avant. If you like, continue along the « Sentier des Narcisses »: a signposted walking trail past meadows, woods and viewpoints from which you can see Lake Geneva and the Alps. In May, the path comes to life and is covered in May snow: the narcissi bloom and fill the air with fragrance, and the green meadows turn white as snow. This rare natural spectacle in Switzerland attracts many visitors every year to the heights of the beautifully scenic Montreux Riviera. Getting there: by public transport or by car to Montreux.
