Nidwaldner Museum - Salzmagazin
About this place
As a cantonal museum, the Nidwaldner Museum has a collection of objects and works of art that document the canton’s art and cultural history. Like many regional museums, it came about at the instigation of the local historical society. Early on, however, contemporary works of art from the canton also found their way into the collection. Today, the Nidwaldner Museum consists of three buildings: the Salzmagazin, the Winkelriedhaus with pavilion in Stans, and the Fort of Fürigen in Stansstad. The Salzmagazin is the museum’s original home. Set in a very central location, near the valley station of the Stanserhornbahn, it hosts an exhibition every year from spring to autumn, focusing on a cultural or historical theme from the canton of Nidwalden.
