Engelberg Valley Museum
About this place
The valley museum is located in an old Engelberg farmhouse, built in 1786-1787. Historic living rooms invite you to discover everyday life in the late 18th century. Museum visitors learn remarkable things about Engelberg’s local characteristics, the local dialect, the carefully made Engelberg costumes and interesting aspects of the valley’s history. The exhibits include a collection on domestic life (household and farm equipment), objects of popular devotion (convent works, reverse glass paintings, etc.), a collection on the history of tourism and sport, and a collection on the Alps (including documents by the relief maker Joachim Eugen Müller). Temporary exhibitions on the cultural history of the region, contemporary art and photography add to the varied programme.
