About this place
In her installation works, Shamiran Istifan explores the complexity of social coexistence. She addresses questions of identity and belonging, which are central for generations growing up between two cultures. She uses different media such as video, sculpture and textile, and draws aesthetically on the symbolism, mythology and pop culture of a cultural space shaped by the diaspora. Shamiran Istifan was born in Baden and is a member of the Assyrian-Aramaic community in exile, a minority from the Middle East. She incorporates both subjective observations and research into her work. New works are being created for the exhibition in Aarau.
