About this place

They are small, stocky and have powerful horns. But their dark red to black coats and fighting spirit give them something majestic when they face off on bright green alpine meadows: Eringer cows fight naturally – usually without injuring themselves. That is how they establish the pecking order in the herd – and their lead cow. On Alpe Rotingen in the Upper Valais, strong fighters graze in summer. The around 105 cows are not milked and are therefore particularly strong. Anyone admiring the spectacle in the wild, romantic setting of the Turtmanntal need not miss out on food either: the fresh trout at restaurant Trächu is famous far beyond the valley, and in the cosy wooden room things can sometimes get lively among the guests too.
