Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts
About this place
Institutionally, the MCBA holds about 11,000 works, and its national and international reputation rests on five major collections: the Abraham-Louis-Rodolphe Ducros (1748–1810), Charles Gleyre (1806–1874), Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen (1859–1923), Félix Vallotton (1865–1925) and Louis Soutter (1871–1942) fonds. In chronological terms, the museum collection covers works from the 18th century to Post-Impressionism, with a particular focus on Cubism and Vaud abstraction. It is shaped by donations from private individuals, long-term loans from institutions and an acquisition policy aimed at complementing the existing holdings while keeping a close eye on Vaud and international art production.
