About this place

The Tell-Museum has the most comprehensive collection of documents, depictions and objects of historical, artistic and highly original character spanning six centuries about the Swiss freedom and national hero Wilhelm Tell, set within the art-historical sights in the village centre of Bürglen, protected as a heritage site. It also holds an important collection by the Basel painter Ernst Stückelberg (1831–1903), who set up a studio in Bürglen and created the four large wall paintings in the Tellskapelle on Lake Uri. The museum reopened in May 2016 after a thorough renovation.
