Klangschmiede Alt St. Johann
About this place
The central elements of the alpine culture practised around the Säntis are the cowbell and the dulcimer: in the «Klangschmiede», the focus is on preserving the art of making bells, as well as crafting singing bowls, gongs and other forged sound objects. The forge workshop with its hearth is used by experienced blacksmiths, but also by course participants who want to make a bell or a gong themselves, for example. You can also experience sound intensely in the Klangschmiede in various themed rooms such as the experiment room, the space room or the overtone room, and hear and explore it through your own experiments. Learn more about the Toggenburg instrument maker Ueli Ammann and immerse yourself in the exciting story behind „Ame’s Ueli“, the master of instrument making. Groups, schools and clubs are very welcome, and on request we offer guided tours of the experience house and the forge.
