Moléson – excursion mountain in the Fribourg Pre-Alps
About this place
The La Gruyère region (also Greyerzerland) is known not only for the small town of Gruyères and its world-famous cheese of the same name, but also for the panoramic summit Le Moléson, visible from afar. Two modern mountain railways with panoramic windows link the village of Moléson-sur-Gruyères with the Pre-Alps summit. Once you reach 2002 m a.s.l., all of western Switzerland lies at your feet: from Lake Geneva to the famous peaks of the Bernese Oberland, from Mont-Blanc to the Jura and the Three-Lakes region. Alongside the superb panorama, a visit to Moléson is especially worthwhile for its wide range of leisure activities: Summer In summer, adventurous visitors can enjoy a fast ride on the summer toboggan run or on a mountain kart. A wide range of hiking trails invites you to explore the area on foot. Visitors without a fear of heights can tackle one of the two via ferrata routes or enjoy the spectacular views on the Trematta ridge walk. A visit to the alpine cheese dairy is worthwhile. Here, guests can experience the former daily life of the Sennen. Every day at 10:00 (May–September), the cheesemaker lifts the cheese out of the copper kettle and talks about his work. Winter In winter, Moléson is a paradise for tobogganers, skiers and snowboarders. Ski tourers and freeriders also get their money’s worth.
