About this place

Museum Rietberg Zürich is the only art museum in Switzerland dedicated to non-European cultures and holds an internationally renowned collection with works from Asia, Africa, America and Oceania. By presenting works of art, the museum aims not only to make people aware of the fascinating diversity of artistic forms of expression, but also to spark understanding and interest in foreign cultures, worldviews and religions. Its strikingly staged temporary exhibitions also attract great attention worldwide. After a walk through the peaceful Rieter Park with views over the city and the Alps, you can enjoy the unique interplay of old and new: the historic villas tell their story – Richard Wagner wrote Tristan und Isolde here – while the green glass pavilion opened in 2007, the «Smaragd», serves as the entrance to the modern underground extension.
