Schloss Leuk
About this place
Originally built in the 12th century, Schloss Leuk long served as the bishop’s seat and a defensive fortress. Over the centuries, it was remodelled and extended several times, bringing together different architectural styles. The castle tower is especially striking and still bears witness today to the building’s strategic importance. Historical documents suggest that the castle played a key role in regional administration and was home to numerous nobles and clergy. The historic walls tell the story of power struggles, diplomatic negotiations and religious influence that shaped the region. Today, Schloss Leuk is a cultural centre that goes far beyond its historical roots. It is used for exhibitions, concerts and art projects, and attracts visitors from all over the world who come on a guided tour to learn more about the castle’s history and interiors.
