Description
The cable car departs from Kandersteg in 8-seater gondolas and takes just under 5 minutes to reach the mountain station.
- Valley station: Kandersteg (1200 m above sea level)
- Mountain station: Oeschinen (1680 m above sea level)
In summer, you can hike from the Oeschinen mountain station about 30 minutes to Lake Oeschinen. There’s also an electric shuttle for people with limited mobility. From the Oeschinen mountain station, you can also ride the summer toboggan run.
In winter, you can sled or hike from the mountain station to Lake Oeschinen. The hiking trail down to Kandersteg is not accessible during winter.
Practical information:
- The junior card is valid on the Kandersteg-Oeschinensee gondola. Show it at the ticket office to get a free junior gondola ticket.
- The e-shuttle is primarily reserved for people with limited mobility.
Oeschinensee Reservation
- This ticket does not include a time slot reservation for the ascent.
- From June 20 to September 20, 2026, a time slot reservation is mandatory. Without a valid reservation, transport is not possible.
- Even outside this period, booking is highly recommended, especially on weekends and busy days.
- Reserve at https://www.oeschinensee.ch/reservation/
- You can go to the gondola within your chosen time slot. The gondola runs continuously, but boarding later than your slot is not guaranteed if you miss it.
- No time slot reservation is needed for the descent. You can return to the valley at any time.
- Early booking is advised, especially in peak season. If your preferred date is fully booked, do not buy a ticket for that time frame anymore.

- Due to limited parking spots, we suggest using public transport during peak season.

I didn’t even use the tickets because it was impossible to use them without activating them at the terminal over there. After waiting for more than an hour, we decided to turn back. Getting a refund for the tickets was impossible. A complete disaster.
