Description
You visit the exhibitions at Sasso San Gottardo without a guide. These include the following exhibitions:
- Permanent exhibition "Goethe on the Gotthard"
- Gotthard watershed light show
- Crystal cavern with resting gallery
- Chamber of Wonders
- Gotthard myth
- Energy cavern
You then take the Metro del Sasso into the interior of the mountain. You will also have to walk along a slightly ascending, long connecting tunnel. In total, you will cover around 2 km on foot.
The historic fortress contains the following stages:
- troop accommodation
- fire control center
- Ammunition magazine
- General Guisan exhibition
- Cold War exhibition
- Gun 1 and 2
- machine gun stand
- Panoramic terrace
You will find the main entrance to Sasso San Gottardo on the Gotthard Pass. It is about 300 m from the hotels/restaurants at the top of the pass. The exhibition sector is located about 300 m deep in the mountain.
Practical information:
- It is recommended to use the cantonal road from Flüelen to Göschenen (not the highway).
- Parking spaces directly in front of the main entrance
- Public transport: Postbus stop Gotthard Passhöhe, 300 m on foot to the main entrance
- Photography is permitted
- Wheelchairs can be borrowed (only partial access with wheelchair)

- You walk about 2 km inside the mountain (slightly uphill).
