Nufenen Postbus pass ride from Airolo or Oberwald

Starting from Airolo, the journey with the postal bus of line 111 goes over Bedretto and All'Acqua to the Nufenen Pass summit at 2478 m above sea level, climbing approximately 1300 meters in altitude. Afterwards, the postal bus descends back over Ulrichen and Obergesteln to Oberwald. This route descends about 1100 meters in altitude.

The postal bus takes approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes for this route.

Practical information:

• Suitable for wheelchairs, strollers, and dogs
• We recommend not to disembark during this route, as there are only two services per day.

The Nufenen Pass is the highest paved Alpine pass in Switzerland. From 2478 meters above sea level, on the right side of the window facing towards Airolo, you have a very beautiful view of the Gries Glacier and Lake. When heading towards Oberwald, you should choose the left side of the window.

If you want to take your bike on the Postbus, please note the following regulations:

• Check the online timetable or the app to see if an R with bike symbol is shown
• If so, please purchase an additional reservation ticket for your bike alongside your regular ticket

• Postal buses are generally equipped for wheelchair transport. The door for wheelchair access has a corresponding symbol.
• The postal bus between Oberwald and Airolo has an integrated lift table, operated by the driver (no prior booking needed). This is indicated as HL in the Swiss Federal Railways timetable.

• Carrying small dogs up to 30 cm is free of charge if they stay in a transport container throughout the journey. This must be placed under your seat.
• Dogs without a container and all dogs over 30 cm shoulder height require a valid dog ticket: half-price of second class or minimum fare (dog day pass, dog pass). They must sit under the seat so as not to block the passage for other travellers.
