You can’t take PET bottles, cans or reusable bottles into the concert area, only Tetra Paks of up to 1 litre. Free drinking water is available at the water points marked with flags, but in front of the main stage you’ll have to queue for it.

Stricter rules apply in the Infield than on the campsite, where PET and cans are allowed.

Pack for heat and cold: When it’s dry, the ground in front of the stages throws up dust with every mosh pit, and shade is rare on the airfield. When it rains, it gets cold quickly in the Bernese Oberland, so bring a rain jacket, warm clothes and sturdy shoes.

The weather at the foot of the mountains changes quickly.

Swap your ticket for your wristband as early as Wednesday, when the ticket desks at the east entrance open at 15.00. Even then, reviewers queued for a good 40 minutes in 2023 to avoid the even longer queues they expected on Thursday morning.

The security check at the campsite entrance is thorough and takes time.

Camping is included in the multi-day pass, and the site opens on Wednesday at 16.00; if you only arrive on Thursday, you’ll hardly find enough space together for a group. For that, groups reserve a Camping Claim (50 m² for up to 10 people), but for 2027 they’re already sold out.

The campsite gets cramped, and in a reserved Claim nobody walks straight through your camp.

Be in front of the stage for the opening on Thursday: Traditionally, alphorn players open the festival, and they draw almost a bigger crowd than the first act.

The alphorn intro is a ritual that regulars don’t want to miss.

If you’re coming by car, allow plenty of extra time and follow the festival signs rather than your satnav (A8, exit 26 Interlaken Ost/Expo). It’s better to come by train, as the festival itself recommends.

Traffic jams over the Brünig and roadworks can more than double the journey time.
