Andrew Dewar is an outstanding organist of his generation. His vast repertoire spans all eras and his own arrangements. Recently, the British organist arranged Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony for organ. Recently, the British organist arranged Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony for organ. Andrew Dewar was already playing the organ at the age of nine in his home town of Yeovil (Somerset). A scholarship at Wells Cathedral School enabled him to study from 1996 to 2000 with Rupert Gough, David Sanger, David Briggs (improvisation) and Dr David Ponsford (harpsichord). After working from 1999 to 2000 as organ scholar at Wells Cathedral, he continued his studies with Prof. Dr. Ludger Lohmann at the Stuttgart University of Music. Dewar won one of the most important organ competitions at the St. Alban’s International Organ Festival (2005) and other first prizes at the Plymouth Organ Competition for young organists, the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Wettbewerb in Berlin, the Bach-Wettbewerb Wiesbaden and the Pipeworks International Organ Competition in Dublin. His concert tours regularly take him to famous churches and concert halls such as St. John’s Smith Square and King’s College Cambridge in London, the Konzerthaus Berlin, Passau Cathedral, as well as to Russia and North America. In addition to his work as a solo recitalist, he gives masterclasses and currently serves on the jury of the international BACH/LISZT competition in Weimar. Andrew Dewar teaches as Professor of Organ at the Royal College of Music in London and has been organist at the Cathédrale américaine de Paris since 2010, with its famous Cavaillé-Coll organ. It was completed in 1887 and inaugurated the same year by the French organist and composer Alexandre Guilmant.
