The Thurgau Youth Orchestra is performing a romantic programme on its autumn tour with works by Mendelssohn and Dvořák. The autumn concerts take place on Sunday, 13 September 2026 at 17:00 in the Evangelical Church in Frauenfeld, on Saturday, 19 September 2026 at 19:30 in the Tonhalle Wil and on Sunday, 20 September 2026 at 17:00 in the Evangelical Church in Amriswil. The upcoming concerts promise an evening full of romantic soundscapes and compelling musical highlights. At the centre of the programme is the rarely heard Concerto for Violin and Strings in D minor by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. This exceptional work was written when Mendelssohn was only thirteen, and it already impresses with its melodic inventiveness, technical brilliance and emotional depth. The solo part is taken by the much-esteemed violinist Igor Keller, Konzertmeister in the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra, who ranks among the most distinguished Swiss violinists with his musical expressiveness and refined playing. In the second half of the evening, Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88 resounds. This work is among the composer’s most popular symphonies and delights with its joie de vivre, memorable melodies and richly coloured orchestration. Inspired by nature and the musical traditions of Bohemia, Dvořák unfolds music full of warmth, energy and optimism. The audience can look forward to a varied concert that combines Mendelssohn’s youthful genius with Dvořák’s mature mastery and brings together two outstanding works of the Romantic orchestral repertoire.
