In the crosshairs. The dark dealings of the Solothurn arms factory

Про це місце

The First World War ended in 1918, Germany and Austria were on the losing side, and the victorious powers severely restricted the military and arms industry in these countries. In no time, the development and production of weapons were shifted to neutral states in order to build up covert armaments. These shadows also fell over Switzerland, including Solothurn and Zuchwil. On the initiative of local politics and business, with the involvement of Germany’s Rheinmetall, Waffenfabrik Solothurn AG was founded in 1929 in the premises of a former cartridge factory in Zuchwil. Historical documents, objects and images reopen this piece of contemporary history. Using the example of Waffenfabrik Solothurn, the Altes Zeughaus Museum presents an era that still has social, political and military repercussions in Switzerland today.
