Why do men suffer more than women when they’re ill? We explore this and other questions in our play “Männerschnupfen”. Because Männerschnupfen is a prime example of the supposed lack of understanding between men and women. The duo comedy cabaret “Männerschnupfen” is based on the book of the same name by Peter Buchenau. The stage version offers not only very entertaining but also informative scenes, as well as witty and sometimes double-meaning dialogues, created with a keen sense for deeper subtleties, which amuse the discerning audience and also prompt reflection. The two lead performers complement each other perfectly in the play. Buchenau plays the sufferer plagued by male cold, who tells the audience with the deepest conviction that poor men suffer far more pain with a Männerschnupfen than women do during childbirth. No wonder Peter does not get much understanding from his stage partner Gloria either. In the end, though, she does at least persuade him to visit a doctor’s surgery. So the poor Peter ends up with the military-cool and dominant doctor, who prescribes him countless medicines. In the end, Peter Buchenau gets to the heart of the message behind “Männerschnupfen”: ultimately, “Männerschnupfen” is also about love and recognition. Cast: Männerschnupfen
