If you listen to Gustav Holst’s The Planets as a Star Wars enthusiast, you will be amazed. The two works are not only set in the vastness of space in terms of content – they are also strikingly similar musically. The famous Imperial March appears in Holst’s fiery Mars; the brutal, often repeated chord dissonance from the main theme forms the end of the same movement in Holst, and all the mystical, magical sounds from Williams’ score are closely related to Neptune. Of course, these astonishing parallels are no coincidence, because Williams, like all great artists, knew how to draw inspiration from existing masterpieces. Holst’s seven-movement suite also became a major influence on western film music as a whole. Jupiter, with its shining brass fanfares, is virtually a blueprint for the heroic, majestic main theme of a big blockbuster, from Superman to Gladiator and, of course, Star Wars. Alternatively, the ticket will be refunded. A performance is considered to have taken place after 45 minutes of performance time. Tickets for performances that have to be abandoned after 45 minutes of performance time cannot be exchanged or refunded.
