Johann Jakob Schärer created the Baroque stucco ceiling in the main nave in 1733. The fresco of Christ carrying the cross on the west wall next to the organ dates from around 1500 and shows in the background the oldest known partial view of Schaffhausen. The newly renovated St. Johann church was inaugurated in 1990; it is also used as a concert church and is the venue for the Bachfachfeste.
