Evening stillness in Clugin

…and has done so for around 695 years! The church of Clugin, with its «style typical of Grisons village churches», as the art guide provided says, must have been built before the middle of the 14th century. The paintings by Waltensburg and Rhäzüns are dated to around 1340. Since 1530, it has been said that the Schams mountain followed the Reformed path. The church of Clugin therefore stands in its «archaic-looking simplicity» almost 200 years before the Church of Jesus split into Protestant and Catholic. It is probably this, alongside the special wall paintings, that also contributes to its unique Romanesque atmosphere. Numerous entries in the church guestbook express the special character of this place and space. That is why I invite you here once a month to this unique place, historically and spiritually «condensed», from spring to autumn. An invitation to listen to the silence and experience spirituality. As a rule, on Wednesdays from 19:30 to 20:30, we will listen in a small group to texts from the contemplative tradition, occasionally sing songs, e.g. Taizé songs, and above all experience evening stillness in silence. The 2026 dates for «Abendstille in Clugin» to note are: 15 April, 13 May, 10 June, 01 July (!), 12 August, 09 September and 07 October. Of course, the evenings are open to everyone, whether Reformed, Catholic or without denomination, just like the little church itself back then! Pfr. Hans-Martin Kätsch
