A queen, a sorceress and a general’s daughter – Cleopatra, Armida and Almirena are heroines from Georg Friedrich Händel’s operas. They show rage as in the aria «Furie terribile», despair as in «Se pietà di me non senti» or tear-jerking grief as in «Lascia ch’io pianga», one of the best-known and most moving opera arias of all. The young Swiss soprano Chelsea Zurflüh, first prize winner of the «Concours de Genève» and winner of the «SWR Junge Opernstars 2025» competition, delves deep into the souls of these remarkable women and turns their emotions into music with her expressive voice and enormous range. La Cetra Barockorchester Basel will accompany her under Maurice Steger and, with Johann Sebastian Bach’s «Brandenburgisches Konzert Nr. 4» and recorder concertos in which Steger can be heard as a virtuosic soloist, set strong musical accents too.
