He was a junior student with Prof. Gerhard Gnann at the Hochschule für Musik in Mainz and with Prof. Carsten Wiebusch at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main. Alongside this, he took piano lessons in the master class of Prof. Dr. Lev Natochenny. He is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Prof. Martin Sander. Jan is first-prize winner of the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition 2024, first federal prize winner in the solo organ category at the “Jugend musiziert” competition 2021 with top marks, second-prize winner of the Internationaler Orgelwettbewerb Wuppertal 2023 and prize winner of the “International Young Organist Competition Moscow” 2020, the first Internationaler Orgelwettbewerb Deidesheim 2020 and the Concours International d’Orgue de Dudelange 2023. He has also received a special prize from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben. In 2021 he was awarded a scholarship from the Jürgen-Ponto-Stiftung Berlin. In autumn 2025 he became the first organist since the prize was established in 1998 to receive the Förderpreis Deutschlandfunk, presented to him as part of Musikfest Bremen. His concert work has taken him to major centres of organ music, including the Berliner Philharmonie, Müpa Budapest, the Essener Philharmonie, Pisa Cathedral, Freiberger Dom, Paderborner Dom, Limburger Dom, Essener Dom, Münsterer Dom, Soester Dom, Freiburger Münster and St. Michaelis Hamburg. International concert tours have also taken him to England, where he has performed among others at York Minster, Westminster Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral, King’s College Cambridge, Exeter Cathedral, Truro Cathedral, Selby Abbey and Southwark Cathedral in London. Jan Liebermann has also been a guest at numerous well-known organ series, including the “Hamburger Orgelsommer”, the “Internationalen Orgelkonzerte Erfurt”, the “Internationalen Hill-Orgel-Tage Berlin”, the “Victoria Hall Organ Proms” in Hanley and the “Himmeroder Orgelsommer”. He has furthermore appeared in the “Hörprobe” concert series on the Deutschlandfunk Kultur radio station and, thanks to his musical successes, has been profiled on radio programmes (including BR-Klassik, SWR, hr2 Kultur, hr-info, radio3, Deutschlandfunk Kultur) and television programmes (including rbb24 Abendschau, Landesschau Rheinland-Pfalz). In spring 2024, Jan Liebermann caused a stir in the organ world when he performed all six Triosonaten by Johann Sebastian Bach from memory at several public concerts. For his artistic achievements and commitment, the Rotary Club Mainz then awarded him the Kulturförderpreis 2024. Just one year later, he devoted himself to performing all the Trois Préludes et Fugues by Marcel Dupré, which he also presented from memory several times in public concerts. In 2025, Jan Liebermann appeared several times at the Berliner Philharmonie. To mark the 60th anniversary of the Schuke organ there, he gave his acclaimed solo debut and performed in another concert with the solo flautist of the Berliner Philharmoniker Emmanuel Pahud. He also performed over three evenings with the Berliner Philharmoniker under the baton of Andris Nelsons.
