What remains? Practices of collecting
Om den här platsen
The exhibition uses the art collection of the city of Baden as a starting point to explore the practices of collecting. At the centre is the depot – quite literally. What usually remains hidden comes into focus here and resonates with seven artistic positions that expand the exhibition’s space for thought. Their works understand collecting as an archive of knowledge, work on memory, trace recovery or a form of making visible, and open up different approaches to questions of preservation, ordering and passing on. What do we preserve when we collect? How does a city collect? What forms of ordering, preserving and archiving do artists develop? And where do institutional and artistic approaches overlap or differ? Alongside questions about how a collection comes into being, and about practices of organising and storing knowledge, the exhibition also shows the gaps that emerge in the process. Vernissage: 18.30 Doors open Welcome by Steffi Kessler, city councillor Exhibition introduction by Patrizia Keller, head of Kunstraum Baden, and Fanny Frey, project and outreach associate.
