The Ittingen estate map of 1745 – an outstanding work of cartography
Om den här platsen
The Ittingen Carthusian Josephus Wech (1702–1761) left behind an impressive written body of work. He worked in administration from an early stage and eventually held the office of Procurator, that is, the monk responsible for the economy. Alongside his administrative manuals, one work stands out in particular: the estate map dated 1745, measuring approx. 3.2 × 5 metres. This monumental masterpiece of cartography is shown to the public for the first time in the exhibition.
