Today, Liechtenstein is one of the most industrialised countries in the world. Its financial centre is internationally connected. The number of jobs far exceeds the number of residents. Today, it is hardly imaginable that the country was still largely rural until the mid-20th century. The economic change since the Second World War has been rapid and far-reaching. The special exhibition traces this exceptional development. It highlights processes of economic change and places at the centre the people who experienced and helped shape this structural transformation – in the tension between new beginnings, decisions and responsibility. Their memories, documented on film, offer a personal approach to economic history and show how economic development grows out of lived realities, collective shaping and a measure of luck.
