Over deze plek

Water, change and transformation appear in the exhibition «Fluss(ab)Fluss» as guiding motifs, interpreted by established artists from Central Switzerland. Their works reflect movement and change as constant forces in life. At the same time, they address the element of water, which is ever-present in the region: inspiring and life-giving, but also threatening. The works show cycles, interventions and breaks, and make visible what often goes unnoticed: transformations in water and the consequences of human control. This creates a layered view of an element that makes life possible and yet remains fragile. The exhibition is closely linked to the book «Das Unerwartete», which will appear in 2026 and turns attention both to the floods of 2005 and to a central infrastructure project: the six-kilometre flood-relief tunnel between Sachseln and Alpnach. But the publication does not only present facts; through various contributions, it seeks a cultural and artistic engagement with natural events. The artists who worked intensively on the theme for the book present mostly new works in «Fluss(ab)Fluss» – as a spatially and sensorially tangible translation of the book’s content.
