Henry Moore, because of his rural background, was a great observer and admirer of nature. For his Sheep Piece, Henry Moore looked for a form that should be both monumental and romantic. The work took its name from its former location in a field where sheep grazed. With the oversized bodies, Moore thus draws our attention to familiar landscapes and animals that we would otherwise hardly notice any more.
