Man of the Millennium, innovator, world-changer: Johannes Gutenberg is a figure of significance for an entire millennium – and for all humanity. With his invention of printing with movable type, around 1450 he revolutionised the history of media and culture on our planet. Johannes Gutenberg’s invention has quite literally shaped our world. The idea sounds so simple: instead of painstakingly painting each letter by hand in writing rooms until a book is copied, it is simply mass-printed with the help of movable type.
