This concert centres on works by the contemporary Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo. His neoclassical compositions enjoy worldwide recognition. Gjeilo’s choral works are marked by dense, atmospheric soundscapes, often made up of multi-voice clusters and sustained chords. He also likes to draw on texts from the Latin church music tradition, which gives his works a timeless, spiritual quality. Alongside Gjeilo, works by Eriks Esenvalds (Latvia) and Eric Whitacre (USA) are also performed, and their compositions rank among the highlights of modern choral music. Whitacre, whose style is often described as neo-impressionist, creates an aesthetic link to Gjeilo’s music. A concert of the Braunwald Music Week. The choir and vocal ensemble perform.
