WMC-Konzert: Jubilate Deo by Dan Forrest

The Symphonic Rock Orchestra Wood and Metal Connection (WMC) is taking on another monumental and impressive modern work, which will be performed four times in October 2026 in various churches in the canton of Schwyz – including twice in the monastery church in Einsiedeln. For this project, the large symphony orchestra will be joined by a specially created project choir of around 80 singers from the region, as well as two female vocal soloists. Jubilate Deo by American composer Dan Forrest (*1978) expresses the joy and praise of God in a musical language that spans the world. The work is based on Psalm 100 in Latin (“Jubilate Deo omnis terra”) and reflects the worldwide diversity of praise. Forrest integrates musical elements from different cultures to emphasise the universality of worship. In this current time of major global upheaval, war in Europe and general uncertainty, we want this work to highlight community and unity despite diversity. The concert opens with Origins by American composer Brian Balmages (*1975), an atmospheric overture about origin, community and the elemental forces of being human. Earthy colours, archaic motifs and powerful climaxes create the thematic starting point for the main work that follows. This combines seven languages and a wide range of musical influences from different cultures into an impressive musical experience. Together, the two works span a thematic arc from the origins of human existence to universal praise, and make a statement for diversity, community and hope.
