The exhibition presents tools and vessels relating to alpine cheese-making, regionally typical adornments for animals and people – from bells and braces to traditional costume jewellery – as well as peasant and furniture painting spanning several centuries. Among the highlights are the famous « Gaiser Wände ». Using pattern books, two hand sewing machines and a unique satin-stitch loom, the museum also gives you a vivid insight into the eventful textile history of the Appenzellerland. At certain times, live activities take place in the textile section. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum shows temporary exhibitions on different themes.
