इस स्थान के बारे में

What artworks are in the collection of the Nidwaldner Museum? And how can they be characterised? A look in the depot shows that they can only be described to a limited extent with the common term ‘inner life of Central Switzerland’. For alongside introspective themes and engagement with the self, artists from Nidwalden have always dealt with world events and international art movements. This is evident in the works and biographies of many of the artists presented. The interplay between self and world forms the thread running through the new permanent exhibition. The collection’s focal points are shown: the studio, mythological and biblical themes, depictions of nature and landscape, as well as engagement with the body, death and transcendence. The dialogue between past and present stretches from the 17th to the 21st century. Old and new meet and create surprising constellations. In addition to artworks, individual artefacts and archival items are presented. Selected works from the long-term loan from the Frey-Näpflin-Stiftung are also included. They explore the relationship between self and world from the perspective of a collector couple who, alongside art from Central Switzerland and Switzerland, collected important works by Flemish, Italian and French masters. The questioning of self and world is thus also reflected in the exhibition in the tension-filled juxtaposition of local and European art. Works by: Judith Albert, Cuno Amiet, Donato Amstutz, Agnes Barmettler, August Blaesi, Rudolf Blättler, Melchior Paul von Deschwanden, Anthonis van Dyck und Werkstatt, Anton Egloff, Christo Javacheff, Verena Loewensberg, Rochus Lussi, Annemarie und Hans von Matt, Leonard von Matt, Joan Miró, Liselotte Moser, Arnold Odermatt, Corinne Odermatt, Marlies Pekarek, Markus Raetz, Paul Stöckli, Melchior Wyrsch, Jakob Josef Zelger and many others. The permanent art-historical exhibition gives you the chance to rediscover the house and the Nidwaldner Museum collection.
