इस स्थान के बारे में

At Museum Burg Zug, history comes alive. Whether it’s a halberd or historical craft, the exhibition lets you take part actively in life back then. Comic girl Lili guides children through the exhibition. In the playroom, they can even become knights themselves. The winding castle on the edge of Zug’s old town is the oldest surviving secular building in the town of Zug and has a history of almost 900 years. In the Middle Ages, the bailiff lived in the castle; in later centuries, it was home to important Zug families. Since 1983, the town’s historical museum has been housed in the castle. It was nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award in 2017. Interactive permanent exhibition The permanent exhibition explores the history of the town and canton of Zug in the historic rooms. Visitors travel back in time. In the medieval room, you’ll find knighthood and mercenary life, as well as an early medieval outfit to try on – not for weak legs, since depending on the era a full suit of armour could easily weigh between 20 and 30 kilos, of course without weapons. More peaceful visitors can feel the influence of the French nobility in the Landtwing cabinet or explore the former Zug pharmacy Luthiger with products from granny’s day. The unicorn castle: a castle for children and families Comic girl Lili takes families on digital or analogue treasure hunts through the museum. Riddles and tasks need to be solved, and unicorns and other mythical creatures discovered in the museum. If you’ve had enough puzzling, you can dress up to your heart’s content in the playroom and become historical castle staff yourself, or pick up a pencil and scissors in the studio. On the experience tour on the last Sunday of the month (dates can be viewed at www.burgzug.ch, each time at 15h), an actress takes on the roles of various historical figures. She takes families on a journey through time. If you still haven’t had enough history, you can also celebrate your own birthday in the castle with your friends. Castle courtyard, castle café and apéros The castle courtyard is a cosy place. Two lime trees provide welcome shade, two swings and deckchairs invite you to relax and linger. The Burgcafé serves fine Luthiger coffee, castle tea or cold drinks. For a small appetite, there are delicious regional treats to enjoy, and of course you can picnic too. The castle courtyard can be hired for smaller events and apéros. The castle rooms are available to couples for wedding photos outside regular opening hours on request.
