Cool down Aargau - How we adapt to the climate

Year by year, it gets hotter on Earth. Rapid climate change calls on us to adapt to the new conditions. Breaking up asphalt, planting trees, storing water: «Cool down Aargau» shows how we can cool our surroundings. At the same time, Argovian school classes present creative suggestions for their home communities and invite you to develop more ideas. The special exhibition encourages you to take action yourself for a liveable future. In a fictional residential area, neighbourhoods, parks, house facades and views of greenery are vividly recreated. On the facades, people look out of the windows – the main characters in the short videos. Floor-to-ceiling photographs offer views of Argovian locations such as Trafoplatz in Baden, the university of applied sciences campus in Windisch, and landscapes in the Limmattal, Spreitenbach and Bünztal. Spread throughout the exhibition, interactive islands, rotating panels and tactile boxes invite you to explore the topics playfully. Each of the five focal points – heat islands, drought, greening, sponge city and cold-air flows – is highlighted with its own colour scheme. The lighting bathes the room in rainbow colours and creates a unique atmosphere. How cool is your municipality? Pupils taking part in the cantonal project «Schule fürs Klima» see that commitment pays off. Between 2022 and 2027, Argovian school classes work on climate change and climate adaptation. They look for concrete measures and carry out projects with and in the municipalities. Colourful narrative strands lead you through «Wie cool ist deine Gemeinde?» on heat, drought and extreme rainfall. The exhibition shows the learning and the concrete suggestions of the pupils for dealing very specifically, in their own living environment, with the challenges of climate change. Museum visitors can take part and develop ideas themselves. These are collected by Klimaberatung Aargau and passed on to the relevant municipalities. So that ideas become action.
