About this place
The Museum für Kunst und Geschichte in Fribourg is housed in an elegant Renaissance palace and a former abattoir in the middle of the picturesque old town. It mainly collects artworks and historical objects from the Canton of Fribourg. This essentially place-specific collection includes a few ensembles of international importance: early medieval belt buckles, the Easter tomb from the convent in Maigrauge, altarpieces by Hans Fries, late Gothic sculpture, paintings and sculptures by Marcello and his friends (19th century), as well as works by the artist couple Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle. Monumental sculptures are on display in the museum garden.
