After a careful restoration, Castello San Materno returns to life in all its splendour, becoming a modern exhibition space for the municipality of Ascona. Thanks to a successful agreement between the municipality and the Kurt and Barbara Alten Foundation for Culture, Museo Castello San Materno permanently houses a collection of more than forty works by artists from the German-speaking area, among the most significant of the period from the late nineteenth century to the immediate post-war years. A collection of great historical and cultural value, which blends well with and finds intimacy in the innate atmosphere of the rooms of Castello San Materno, shaped by centuries of history and life.
