About this place

At the lower end of the valley – so the legend goes – Saint Gall is said to have stumbled and fallen into the thorns. He saw this as a divine sign and built his hermit’s cell here. From this later came the St.Gallen monastery, and centuries later the city of St.Gallen grew from it. Today, the ‘valley station’ for the Mühleggbahn, a funicular that goes up to St.Georgen, stands on this spot. You can also explore the Mülenenschlucht on foot. The wild, romantic path leads over small bridges and past the roaring Steinach.
