Hikes at Bachalpsee
There are several hiking trails around Bachalpsee. Here, we introduce you to two of them.
Grindelwald First – Bachalpsee – Faulhorn – Bussalp
If you take the pack trail behind the lake, you'll pass two shelters and eventually reach Gassenboden. A few turns further up is the traditional Faulhorn Mountain Hotel. While the hotel is closed in winter, you have the option to try out the longest toboggan run in Europe at 15 km. If there's enough snow, you can sled all the way down to Grindelwald via “Big Pintenfritz.”
If a toboggan ride isn’t on your to-do list, you can take the steep descent back via Gassenboden. You'll need to push through the wide alpine basin of Bussalp until you reach Oberläger, which is the final stop for the Bussalp postal bus. From there, you can take the bus back to Grindelwald.
Grindelwald First – Bachalpsee – Waldspitz – Bort
If you want to hike further, you can take the route to Waldspitz and Bort. This trail takes you through a true paradise of colorful flowers to Bachläger. More than 60 types of flowers line the path, and you’ll walk along narrow trails through unique landscapes. The view of the Grindelwald Glacier, Wetterhorn, and Eiger North Face is especially impressive here.
From Bachläger, you can reach Waldspitz in another 20 minutes. Just below the restaurant, turn onto the steep but beautiful path winding through the forest. After another 40 minutes, you’ll arrive at the middle station Bort of the Firstbahn. Here, you can decide whether to head down to Grindelwald or continue hiking. When you’ve finally had enough of hiking, there are two options: the Firstbahn or the Trottibike. This way, you can cover the distance in no time and without any effort.

As you can see, Bachalpsee is a great and easy to reach destination from Grindelwald First.
