Forest Bathing
Shinrin Yoku is the Japanese term for "forest bathing" and literally means "taking a bath in the atmosphere of the forest." It's a mindful practice where you deliberately spend time in the forest to experience nature's calming and healing effects.
This practice was developed in Japan during the 1980s to reduce stress and promote people's health. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated that Shinrin Yoku has positive effects on both physical and mental wellbeing, such as lowering blood pressure, boosting the immune system, and reducing stress hormones.
Shinrin Yoku isn’t a sport but a conscious, slow, and sensory encounter with nature. Typical elements include mindful walking, deep breathing, noticing the sounds, scents, and textures around you, and meditative exercises. The goal is to relax the body and mind and fully tap into the forest’s regenerative power.
