The Seebachtal valley consists of three small lakes: Hüttwilersee, Nussbaumersee and Hasensee lie close together here. The valley is a Thurgau island of biodiversity. It was not always like this. When the banks were drained during the cultivation drive in the Second World War, much of the species-rich habitat was lost. The Seebachtal Foundation for the protection of the three lakes put a stop to the destruction. After extensive renaturalisation, threatened amphibians such as the tree frog and the smooth newt returned. But dragonflies, beavers, water birds and other rare plants and animals also live in the lakes, the surrounding ponds, streams or fen areas. Boardwalks, viewing platforms and winding paths lead along the shores and invite you to explore and linger. The mostly free lake access points tempt you to swim and, even outside the bathing season, to stop and have a barbecue. The barrier-free route 918 is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The pile-dwelling people already liked the Inseli in Nussbaumersee. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An on-site sign with a video link explains more.
