The Ittinger Museum forms the heart of the Kartause Ittingen. It explores the history of the place and the special features of the Carthusian order. For centuries, monastic communities lived here, first the Augustinians and from the middle of the 15th century the Carthusians. The richly furnished dining room, the plain monks' cells and the splendid Rococo church still look today as if the monks were still living and praying in Ittingen. As you walk through the cloisters and workrooms, you gain insights into a world that is normally closed because of the strict rules of the Carthusian order. In the Lake Constance region, there are hardly any places where you can experience monastic life and spirituality more authentically. The gardens, with their unique combination of ornamental and useful plants, Switzerland's largest historic rose garden with over a thousand rose bushes, and four themed garden trails invite you to linger and explore.
