From Zurich: Alphorn Day at Lake Oberblegi

You will travel in a small group from Zurich to Luchsingen in the canton of Glarus. A small cable car takes you to Brunnenberg. From there you hike to the Oberblegisee and climb about 400 meters in altitude. You carry the alphorn on your back. It weighs about 6 kg.

On the way you practice with the alphorn and look for the most beautiful places for an echo. The steep rock faces at Oberblegisee are ideal for this.

For the lunch break you walk together to the cozy restaurant Bächibeizli. Please note that only cash is accepted in the mountain restaurant. At the end you will play a simple melody in the group.

From there you hike back to the top station of the cable car, which will take you back to Luchsingen. In total you will be on the way for about 6.5 hours.

Practical information:

• Bring: Spare T-shirt, rain jacket, water bottle, sunscreen
• Up to about 12 liters volume you can stow in the Alphorn transport bag
• Accessibility Meeting point: Tram no. 7 to Wollishofen / Staubstrasse train station or S-Bahn to Wollishofen

The Oberblegisee can only be reached on foot. The deep blue mountain lake is naturally formed and lies at the foot of the Glärnisch. The lake was dammed by a glacial moraine. Its so far unexplored outflow is underground through loose rock. The Oberblegisee is considered one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Switzerland.

The circular route from the Brunnenberg mountain station to the lake leads along an evenly ascending wide hiking trail. The hike leads through a protected amphibian spawning area. The descent to the cable car goes from the lake past the Bächistübli restaurant.
