From Zurich: Alphorn day on the Bannalp

You drive in a small group from Zurich to the Engelberg valley. From Fell, a small blue cable car will take you up to Bannalp to the Chrützhütte.

Together you hike around the clear Bannalpsee and up to the Alp Oberfeld (easy hike with about 300 meters altitude difference). On the way you practice with the alphorn and look for the most beautiful places for an echo. You carry the alphorn on your back. It weighs about 6 kg.

Lunch is either with you or in one of the mountain restaurants. Please note that only cash is accepted in the mountain restaurants. At the end you will play a simple melody in the group.

You descend again to the Bannalpsee and take the red cable car down to Fellboden, only 450m from Fell. In total you will be on the way for about 6.5 hours.

Practical Information:

• Bring: Spare T-shirt, rain jacket, water bottle, sunscreen
• Up to about 12 liters volume you can stow in the Alphorn transport bag
• Accessibility Meeting point: Tram no. 7 to Wollishofen / Staubstrasse train station or S-Bahn to Wollishofen

Bannalp is situated at about 1600 to 2800 m above sea level in a side valley of the Engelberger valley. The pre-Alpine high valley impresses with the interaction of the mountains, the idyllic lake and the unique nature. Lake Bannalp, situated at 1587 m above sea level, is a reservoir that was created during the construction of the Oberrickenbach power plant.

Two small cable cars go up to the Bannalp. The blue cable car takes ten minutes from Fell to Bannalp. The red cable car goes from Fellboden to Bannalpsee in eight minutes.
