Description
This unusual city tour focuses on the theme of water. That means more than just the Aare River and Lake Thun. You’ll learn how floods were controlled in Thun in the past. Water powered mill wheels, and even local bars had something to do with water. You’ll also get answers to questions like how laundry was washed and where bathers used to swim in the Aare.
Alongside the fascinating stories about water, there’s also a theatrical performance. A critic of the Kander, a washerwoman, and a swimmer share stories from their lives—expect some surprises.
The tour ends at Selve Thun, Scheibenstrasse 15 in Thun.
Practical information:
- Public tours are not wheelchair accessible. Barrier-free group tours are available on request.
Swiss Activity Tip
In autumn, you can enjoy free water shows after the city tour. They take place over four weeks, from late September to late October. The "Thuner Wasserzauber" happens regardless of the weather. The Aare basin is located in the centre of Thun, right in front of the Hotel Aare Thun. From Thun station, it’s about a five-minute walk, and about three minutes from Mühleplatz.
