Ballooning
Book a hot air balloon ride in Switzerland. Since the first balloon went up over Basel in 1788, ballooning has been one of the most special experiences. You float almost silently over the mountains, lakes or cities and can see the world from a bird's eye view. You will enjoy views and a silence that you can only enjoy in a balloon. In good weather, balloon flights are possible all year round.

Frequently asked questions
Ballooning · answered by the editorial team
What is used to propel the balloons in ballooning?
Ballooning is done with free balloons. The balloons are either hot air balloons or are filled with a gas that is lighter than air.
How fast does a balloon go?
During takeoff and landing the balloon has a maximum of 20 km/h, in between around 40 km/h. For alpine crossings speeds up to 100 km/h are possible.
Is ballooning also carried out in winter?
Ballooning is possible all year round in good weather. Floating above snowy peaks and getting a clear far view is uniquely beautiful. In summer you can admire not only the mountain peaks but also the glaciers in their entire size.
What clothes do I need for ballooning?
It is best to wear comfortable walking shoes. The clothing is adapted to the respective temperatures and resembles hiking clothes. You do not need to dress too warmly. Inside the basket there is no wind and additionally you benefit from the waste heat of the burner. A headgear is an advantage and sunglasses should not be missing. For rides in summer, a T-shirt is often sufficient. However, a thick sweater is a must. Don't forget sunscreen!
In what weather must ballooning be canceled?
Thunderstorms are very dangerous for balloon flights. Since a balloon only reaches low speeds, it is at the mercy of a thunderstorm. So as soon as thunderclouds build up, the balloon flight is canceled. Strong high altitude winds do not bother a balloon, but strong ground winds can prevent a launch or make a landing very difficult. In the event of heavy fog (especially in lake areas), an attempt will be made to divert to another route. Cloudy weather would not be a problem for the balloon flight, but it takes away from the enjoyment of the view. Therefore, even in the case of heavy cloud cover, a planned balloon flight will be postponed.
How long does the ballooning take?
There are short balloon flights lasting about 90 minutes and balloon flights lasting up to twelve hours
