Description

From Andermatt, you travel with the PostBus line 110 on your way to Airolo, initially passing through Hospental and Mätteli up to the pass summit. The Gotthard Pass is 26 km long and ends in Airolo. Along the way, you can disembark at any stop to enjoy the views or explore hiking and biking routes. Check the timetable to know when to be ready at the next PostBus stop.

Swiss Activities Tip

The 2100 m above sea level Gotthard Pass is worth a visit. You will have an amazing view of the winding road and the surrounding mountain scenery. At the summit, you can also visit the Sasso San Gottardo fortress. This former artillery fortress of the Swiss army was still kept secret until just a few years ago.

Bike

Want to take your bike on the post bus? Please note the following rules:

  • Check the online timetable or app to see if an R with bike symbol is shown
  • If so, please buy a reservation ticket for your bike alongside your regular ticket

Traveling by wheelchair

  • Post buses are generally equipped for wheelchair transport. The door for wheelchair access is marked with the relevant symbol.
  • The Postbus between Andermatt and Airolo has a built-in lift that is operated by the driver (no advance booking needed). This is indicated as HL in the Swiss Federal Railway timetable.

Travelling with your dog

  • Small dogs up to 30 cm are free to take along if they stay in a transport container throughout the journey. This container must be stowed under your seat.
  • Dogs without a container and all dogs taller than 30 cm at the shoulder require a valid dog ticket: half the price of second class or the minimum fare (dog day pass, dog pass). They must sit under the seat to avoid blocking the passage for other travellers.
