Splitboarden

Splitboarding is a mix of snowboarding and ski touring. A splitboard looks like a regular snowboard, but it can be separated in the middle. This creates two skis that you can use to walk uphill. To prevent sliding back down, you attach special climbing skins under the skis.

Once you reach the top, you connect the pieces back together to form a snowboard and ride down into the valley through deep snow. Splitboarding is perfect for freeriders who want to venture off-piste without relying on a lift.

Required equipment

Make sure to bring your own gear. You'll need:

  • Splitboard setup (splitboard + skins + crampons)
  • Adjustable trekking poles
  • Freeride or hiking backpack, at least 18L
  • Required avalanche safety gear: transceiver, probe, and shovel.
  • Personal items: change of clothes, camera, etc.
